Final fees depend on your specific case, length of stay, and any additional investigations or interventions required. Insured patients on Gold-tier private health cover typically pay a significantly reduced gap fee — see below.

✦  Insurance changes everything

If you’re insured, your gap is much smaller.

Most Gold-tier Australian private health funds cover hospital and theatre fees in full. You’re left with the gap — surgeon, anaesthetist, assistant and our 12-month care programme.

✦  Cost questions

The questions everyone asks.

Why doesn't OptiWeight quote a single fixed price?

Every patient is different. Length of stay, complexity, any required additional procedures, and your insurance status all shape the final number. We provide an exact itemised quote at consultation — and we honour it.

Yes. Medicare provides a rebate against the surgeon, anaesthetist and assistant fees for eligible procedures. Your gap is the difference between our fee and the combined Medicare + private health fund rebate.

Yes. Revisional surgery is technically more complex and longer in theatre, so the fee is higher. We provide a precise quote after a full upper-GI workup.

We’ll be honest with you. If surgery is genuinely out of reach right now, we’ll work with you on a medical or non-surgical pathway that you can afford — and revisit surgery later if you wish.
